Sibhat Nega, a.k.a Aboy Sibhat, is one of the veterans who founded the Tigray Peoples’ Liberation Front (TPLF) forty years ago in the arid desert area known in northern Tigray as Dedebit. The young Sibhat was born in Adwa and went to primary school there. He went to Makalle to attend secondary school. Completing secondary school, he became a teacher and taught in Addis Ababa and Selale. Later he joined university and graduated from the Department of Economics. He worked with the Ministry of Finance before he went back home as a teacher. He was later transferred to the town of Yirgalem. He heard the establishment of TPLF while he was there. He joined his friends a month after they founded the party.
